Clinical Psychologists work with people of all ages on a wide range of psychological difficulties in mental and physical health.
Clinical Psychologists can work with individuals, their families, and as part of a team supporting the person.
In neurodevelopmental services, Clinical Psychologists carry out diagnostic assessments, provide a ‘formulation’ which is a psychological way of understanding the person, and can offer psychological interventions.
Assessments carried out with a Clinical Psychologist may include an interview with the person and their family, psychometric tests (e.g. questionnaires) and neuropsychological assessment (e.g. paper and pencil activities to assess thinking and reasoning, problem-solving and learning), and observations of behaviour. Clinical Psychologists may consider a persons early experiences, learning and cognition and mental health needs within an assessment. Some identified needs may need onward referral for further support and assessment.
